What is whois tool?

Whois tool gives information about individuals or bodies who are registered to own the internet resources like domain names and ip addresses. Whois tool uses the WHOIS response protocol which contains the database of domain and ip address registrations.

Why do we need whois?

Whois tool can be used in order to check the availability of the domain and whether the domain name has owners. You can check the availability of the domain in the browser, however, not all the registered domain names are used in the interent. Whois service gives full personal and address details of the domain owner, the date and the deadline of the registration.
